Virtual Library

Students from Mrs. Brown-Cooper's sixth grade class volunteered their time in the creation of a virtual reading library, in the effort to bring the joy of reading to students from Manchester's first grade campus wing.

Students created videos of their reading high-interest, picture-books using iPads and apps such as Apple's Camera and Shadow Puppet Edu. The resulting files were edited and posted on the Shadow Puppet educational site for viewing.

To draw the interest of our youngest readers, posters were created with Microsoft Powerpoint, containing colorful book covers and captions, summarizing each book. Readers view the reading-videos by scanning the QR codes found on each poster with their iPad's QR reader.

Project planning and guidance was facilitated by Michael Lopez, the school's technology coordinator and the beautiful flower garden motif was planned and built by Manchester's first grade instructional team, spearheaded by Margaux Stern.

First grade would like to invite all Manchester students and staff to take a stroll through their Reading Garden and listen to a virtual book or two.
